Steady Growth in Internet Access and Usage

Johannesburg, 27 July 2010 – Whilst some countries have made internet access a basic human right, South Africa is yet to go that far, but internet users are continuing to grow rapidly, with an expected annual increase of 16% in the base of individual PC internet users this year.

26 July 2010 - The convergence of telephony, broadcasting and IT service provision, often dubbed "multiple play", has given rise to a competitive market environment where all market players need to deliver broadband, multimedia, and value-added services to win new customers and to retain existing ones. Gated communities are some of the first environments in South Africa where true triple and quad play services are offered. This has resulted in niche players entering the market offering a so-called multiple play deal which often includes a security option.

SA Fixed Line Voice Market Turnaround

Johannesburg, South Africa, July 2010 – Research and Advisory firm, BMI-TechKnowledge has announced the publication of its latest report entitled SA Voice Services Market Forecasts and Analysis, which has revealed that during the period 2009 to 2014, fixed and mobile revenues are forecast to grow at CAGRs of 3% and 7% respectively.

South African IT Market grows by 2.5% in 2009

The South African IT market revenue grew 2.5% from R60.36 billion in 2008 to reach R61.85 billion in 2009, according to a new study released by BMI-TechKnowledge. The company expects the IT market to grow by 2.5% to R63.41 billion in 2010, and at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.3% to reach R83.97 billion in 2014.

According to Clinton Jacobs, head of IT research  at BMI-T, “the IT industry outlook is positive and appears to have turned the corner”.

Transport, Communications and Media roll with the punches

The recession has adversely affected the Transport, Communications and Media sectors to a significant degree, but there is a positive side, which includes the preparations for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. According to Lesley-Anne Dos Santos, BMI-T’s Enterprise Research Business Manager, the event has to a large extent mitigated the effect of the economic downturn in South Africa in these sectors.
